Introduction

I‘ve spent my early twenties mastering the academic machine—the honours thesis, the conference circuits, the relentless pursuit of institutional validation. Somewhere along the way, I realized that credentials are scaffolding, not personhood. Studying how we present ourselves to the world left me wondering: who are we when the performance ends? Beyond achievement, status, and carefully maintained identities, what do people actually want?

The gap between the curated self and the internal world became impossible to ignore. I’ve grown increasingly uninterested in lives built around constant self-optimization or documentation. What holds my attention now is more subtle: an offhand remark that slips past intention, the way someone inhabits a silence, how they move when no one is watching.

I see the complexity of human experience as something to be observed rather than resolved. Science, to me, is not the undoing of magic, but the language we use to describe it. From the intricacies of epigenetics to the reality of the placebo effect, what remains unresolved only creates more room for awe.

I don’t impress easily, but I notice quickly. I’m drawn to people who can laugh at life's absurdity and stay steady without needing all the answers. I’m slow to settle into an impression. My attention tends to deepen with time. The kind of connection I’m interested in doesn’t rush to smooth out its edges. It begins over dinner and, against the grain of modern speed, deepens over the course of years.

What comes after performance is where we meet.
